Our mission

We build fast, free, private calculators and document generators for the everyday financial and logistical questions Americans and Canadians actually have: how much will I take home in California? Can I afford this house in Ontario? How long until I pay off this car?

Every tool on this site runs 100% in your browser. We do not require sign-up. We do not store the numbers you enter. We do not sell your data. We make money from unobtrusive display ads, and that is the entire business model.

What we cover

  • Tax & Payroll

Salary and take-home pay for all 50 US states (with state-specific levies like CA SDI, WA Cares, NJ FLI) and all 13 Canadian provinces and territories (with QPP/QPIP, OHIP, etc.).

  • Mortgage & Real Estate

Affordability (US 28/36 rule vs. Canadian GDS/TDS stress test), true monthly payment including property tax and PMI/CMHC, early payoff, rent-vs-buy NPV, refinance break-even, and closing costs.

  • HR & Documents

Browser-based paystub drafts with standard IRS/CRA deductions, plus jurisdiction-aware NDA, contractor, and IP-assignment templates.

  • Freight & Cross-Border

MPG ↔ L/100km, pounds ↔ kilograms, gallons ↔ liters, and US/Canada fuel surcharge rate conversions.

What we do not do

  • We are not a CPA firm, tax preparer, enrolled agent, or financial advisor.
  • We are not a law firm, and our legal templates are starting-point drafts — not substitutes for counsel in your jurisdiction.
  • We are not a bank, lender, or mortgage broker. We do not pull credit, originate loans, or accept applications.
  • We do not collect the answers you enter into our calculators. We do not run servers that store them.

For anything with real money on the line, please confirm with a licensed professional in your state or province. See our full disclaimer.

Editorial standards

swiftutillity.com is a small independent project. We follow a strict review process for every calculator we publish:

  1. Source the data. Every tax bracket, rate, and threshold is pulled from a primary government source (IRS, CRA, state Department of Revenue, Statistics Canada) and re-verified at least annually — and more often for high-sensitivity tools.
  2. Document the math. Every formula is written out in plain language on our methodology page. If a calculator uses a non-obvious assumption (e.g., CMHC premium table, US standard deduction rounding), the page tells you.
  3. Last-reviewed timestamp.Every tool page shows a “Last reviewed” date so you can tell at a glance how fresh the numbers are.
  4. AdSense-supported, no paywalls, no data sales. We do not require a login, an email, or a payment to use any tool. We do not sell or share user data.

Who we are

MC
Marcus ChenFinancial Calculator Editor

Marcus Chen leads editorial verification for swiftutillity.com, responsible for sourcing, cross-checking, and maintaining all financial data used across the tax, mortgage, and payroll calculators. Before joining swiftutillity, he spent eight years as a financial analyst verifying government tax publications and building decision-support tools for personal finance at a North American fintech firm. He specializes in translating complex IRS and CRA regulatory changes into accurate, consumer-facing calculations.

Marcus holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of British Columbia and completed the CFA® Program (passed all three levels). He is not a licensed CPA, tax attorney, or financial advisor.

swiftutillity.com is a small independent project built and maintained by a small team of builders in North America. The site is a side project — we use it ourselves, ship it when it improves, and update the data when the IRS or CRA publishes new brackets.

We are not a media company. We do not run a newsroom. We do not publish opinion pieces. We are a tool — and every calculator on this site is reviewed against primary government sources at least annually.

How we make money

Display advertising through Google AdSense. That's the whole business. No affiliate placements currently (we plan to add disclosed tax-software and mortgage-lender affiliate links in 2026 — they will always be marked “Affiliate” at the link level). No data sales. No premium tier. No newsletter paywall.
